Marko Skin

D.O. Bizkaiko Txakolina

2019

What’s in a Name

Skin clearly refers to the skin contact this wine has been given. In the label this is depicted as a skinless face, accompanied by the frase “Your skin attracts me with the gravity of the entire cosmos which outside suffers its impenetrable black eternity,” by Nicarguan poet Giaconda Belli.

Varieties

100% Hondarribi Zuri (Gros Courbu)

Vineyard

The vineyards are located in the village of Kortezubi, a little old town in Bizkaia, famous for its prehistoric caves which form a Unesco World Heritage Site. The vineyards are located on a clay loam topsoil over limestone subsoil. Slate can be found in some parts.

Winemaking

After 8 days of skin contact in 300 litre amphorae, the skins are removed and the wine is left to ferment. It is then transferred to 225 litre French oak barrel to age for 8 months in contact with its lees. The wine is bottled unfiltered.

Character

Marko Skin shows aroma’s of quince and baked apple. On the palate the lively acidity is well balanced by flavours of caramalized orange peel and dried apricot. The skin contact gives it a nice firm structure.
